Oh, what a morning! We woke and heard the mother duck calling and the chicks answering, she was in our yard, and the small ones were on the roof of the carages just outside our windows. Henrik saw the last one jump down to the yard, and we are talking about 2 ½ meters down, quite an achievement!
We found our camera and took some lovely pictures, following them all the way down to the harbor...
Here they are resting in the yard
What way should I take them to the water?
Let's take this way!
Across the yard
This is easy, just come down here!
Here they come!
Is this possible?
Through the gateway into the street
Along Algade
Through another yard
Swallow following us...
Crossing the parking lot
No problem here
Going on
Mom's down there!
How do we get down there?
Mom's encourageing them
It's not that easy!
Across another parking lot
Down Strandgade/ Beach Street
Crossing Havnegade/ Harbor Street
Safe!
Mom just jumps in...
She calls for the chicks to come
Well, we are not so sure...
Come on, you can do it!
Almost everybody
Just missing the last ones
Follow me!
Altogether in the water
We follow you whereever you go, mom
Bathing in the sun
What about a rest, mom?
OK, then!
Come with me!
Here we can relax...
See how comfortable they are...
... loving it...
... enjoying...
... having fun... and now it's time to leave...
Afterwards we realized that she must have had a nest on top of the garages in our yard, and today the chicks were strong enough to follow her to the water. And without any doubt she took them down to the harbor... and perhaps she first wanted to take them to the creek, but realized she couldn't get them over the wall in the yard...
What a way to wake up and how life confirming an adventure it was!
Hope you enjoy, too!
